In the early years, Lee's interest in art and nature generated realistic watercolors and drawings of wildlife, primarily birds. This led to illustrating books on nature and science for The Smithsonian Institution and National Geographic. As he matured as an artist, he found the weather, day and season that the object was found more interesting than the wildlife he originally painted. Now many of the paintings in the past decade include the details; the snow, creek water, plants, bark of a tree and essentially the day that the landscape is depicted. Below is a sampling of artwork from the vantage point of the painter.
The matted leaves of early spring around one of my favorite childhood trees.
The last peak of daylight.

Bass fishing along the shore of my pond.
Nothing is more inviting than the light of home after a cold trudge in the snow.
Corn standing up to the winter winds.
My farm at daybreak and minus 20 F.
June storm heading toward my porch.
